Low Carbon Concrete Stakeholder Engagement

Project Leads: Sustainable Performance Institute and Lambert Sustainability

Team: BSA, CLF Boston/Northeast

Concrete is the most widely used substance on earth and is responsible for more global CO2 emissions than any other singular material. The development, production and use of innovative low carbon concrete solutions is a critical component of decarbonizing the built environment and meeting state-wide climate goals in Massachusetts. Through a grant from the Jampart Charitable Trust, the Carbon Leadership Forum (CLF) Boston Hub and the Boston Society for Architecture (BSA) have partnered and brought in the consultant team of Sustainable Performance Institute and Lambert Sustainability to design and facilitate a series of interdisciplinary stakeholder engagement workshops.

Stakeholders will include every stage of the process of making, specifying, designing and building with concrete including both local and national representatives of the concrete industry, ready-mix suppliers and concrete subcontractors, general contractors, architects, structural engineers, material specifiers, owners, and other professionals.

Through unique multi-disciplinary conversations across industries, and the sharing of work processes, barriers and opportunities, the team will develop a deeper understanding of the current landscape- the financial, environmental and logistical considerations- and the future path to accelerate the development and use of low carbon concrete in our region.
